Contemporary Culture was founded in 1991
by Kaleta Doolin as a non-profit
organization for the advancement of culturally diverse visual,
performing, installation and book arts. Contemporary Culture
sponsors the annual "Art in the Neighborhood" workshop
and exhibition. Since its founding, Contemporary Culture has
collaborated with the Dallas Museum of Art, Hallwalls Contemporary
Art Center (Buffalo, NY), Southeastern Center for Contemporary
Art (Winston-Salem, NC), and Sculpture Center (New York, NY).
Contemporary Culture has presented an evocative array of artists
and their work, including Beverly Semmes (New York, NY), Willie
Birch (New Orleans, LA), Melinda Levin (Denton, TX), Sunni
Mercer (Oklahoma City, OK), Audrey Niffenegger (Chicago, IL),
and Pamela Zwehl-Burke (Los Angeles, CA).
